Born in Greece in the port city of Volos, at the foothills of Mount Pelion, provided Charlie a magical and mythological backdrop rich in history and with a wealth of diverse natural beauty.

Charlie was raised in an artistic environment, his mother, a Royal Academy artist and Geologist father brought the vistas of Greece to life through knowledge and extensive exploration, from mountains to beaches, throughout Greece and abroad. As a child he would sit for hours breathing the essence of the azure sea and inhaling the blossoms that descended on clear mountain air feasting his eyes on infinite horizons.

Once on this journey of discovery and having experienced the subtlety of colour and light within stunning scenery, which coloured his life so profoundly, it was natural for him to continue on this voyage. On graduating school he finally settled in London after exploring Europe, bringing his memories with him as precious cargo.

Charlie is a self-taught artist and following a forced early retirement from his previous career through ill health, he pursued his artistic dream. His work has assumed a fundamental association with the most formative memories and CHRONOS ( Time ), HYDOR ( Water ) and MNEME ( Memory ) are integral components of his imagery.

His visual language and inspiration are derived from the essence of change and mood of the sea and its relationship with the sky. Focusing on the seductive time between twilight and the first light of dawn, he explores the relationship of serenity, time and space, giving the viewer a glimpse into a world offering emotional solace.

By going beyond mere nostalgia his work encourages the viewer to share the sentiment and theme of the painting while allowing them to create their own level of intimacy and relation with the image according to their own emotions and memories.
